About One Star Hiking

One Star Hiking is all about finding a balance between our connection with nature and moving our bodies in a joyful manner. It’s about inhaling fresh air, listening to a soundtrack of birdsongs, and taking in the sights of some of the most beautiful landscapes across Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.

Most importantly, One Star Hiking is for all levels of fitness, because we believe in slowing down, learning a little more about ourselves (and the world around us), and making the most out of each step.

At the end of every hike, we want hikers to feel relaxed, accomplished, and looking forward to their next adventure in nature.

About Emily

Emily has a love of nature and is passionate about helping people connect to nature. She has a unique background in both climate change adaptation and inclusive fitness. She holds certifications in personal training, group instruction, and adaptive fitness.

In 2021, Emily launched resiliFIT Coaching - a personal training and group fitness business that focuses on making movement fun, functional and welcoming to all levels of fitness. She believes that size and ability do not determine one’s fitness, and loves seeing her clients gain strength and confidence.

Emily has also been leading hikes for local municipalities within Kings County, as well as a Nova Scotia Walks meet-up. This is where her two passions really began to come together.

Recognizing that resiliFIT didn’t quite line up with her joy of helping people hit the trails, she decided to take on a new path by starting One Star Hiking.

Whether it’s your first hike or you’ve been doing it for years, Emily is excited to guide you along some of her favourite trails!

About Zaida

Zaida is the official One Star Hiking site scout. This means she accompanies Emily on pre-hike adventures to make sure the trails are safe. She is great at helping to set the pace, and reminding us to take breaks along the way. Zaida works behind the scenes only, and will not be present on hike day. But she is always happy to share her favourite dog-friendly trails!
